Two men have been fined after breaking into a pub in Castletown.
John Edward Patrick Horne, 19, and Calhoum Tyrer, 25, both from Castletown, were sentenced by Deputy High Bailiff Rachael Briadwood.
The two and a third man, not before the court, broke into the pub on May 29 and stole a single bottle of Heineken.
Tyrer’s advocate Laurence Vaughan-Williams read from a basis of plea which said his client admitted entering the pub when it was closed and taking the beer.
Mr Vaughan-Williams said his client was not the instigator of the break in, or the one who first gained entry, but admitted following that person in.
He told the court that the three had been drinking “copious” amounts of alcohol and shortly before the burglary had a bucket of water thrown over them due to the noise they were making.
He added that Tyrer was “extremely remorseful” for what had happened.
Bouncing into furniture
Representing Horne, advocate Helen Lobb said her client is a young man who followed two older friends into the pub but beyond that had no intention of wrongdoing.
She described him “bouncing into the furniture” while inside the pub.
Ms Lobb said when Horne gave a full account to the police when interviewed and that he had been “working towards bettering his behaviour”.
She also offered his apologies to the court.
Sentencing
Deputy High Bailiff Braidwood fined Bourne £450 plus £125 in costs, telling him what while she accepted he followed the others “nevertheless you are part of this” and that he “should have stayed outside”.
Ms Braidwood said Tyrer’s culpability was higher as he was the one who took the beer, but acknowledged he had not been the one to force entry to the pub.
He was fined £600 plus £125 costs which will be deducted from benefits.
