Onchan MHK Julie Edge has said that it is ‘time for fairness’ as the island’s private sector is being ‘squeezed more and more’.
She says that the public sector median pay is nearly £200 a week higher than private sector pay.
Edge said that the “28% gap that distorts our national statistics and disadvantages hard-working private sector employees”.
Time For Fairness
The Onchan MHK is calling for:
- Immediate public sector recruitment freeze while a full structural review of pay and benefits takes place – efficiencies demonstrated.
- Urgently review any policy decisions based on current median wage statistics until public and private pay data are separated fairly.
- CABO must publish the true median wage for both public and private sectors including pension arrangements.
She added: “It’s time to ensure fairness across our economy.”
