Douglas North MHKs John Wannenburgh and David Ashford have praised the planning committee for rejecting proposals to install telegraph poles in Tromode.
Manx Telecom’s plans had been to install the poles as part of the fibre rollout.
However, this was met with opposition from residents who want the fibre, but not the poles.
Both Manx Telecom the government have said poles are the most cost effective way of delivering fibre to homes.
Addressing the unanimous decision, Mr Ashford and Mr Wannenburgh said: “Delighted that common sense has prevailed.
“The planning committee has recognised both the visual impact and streetscape impact of the proposed installation of fibre broadband poles in Tromode and rejected both applications unanimously.
“It was great to see so many residents present at the meeting to make their feelings known.
“Relevant government agencies now need to engage and work with Manx Telecom to find a solution that fits with the 21st Century not the 1970’s.”
