Mike’s Doing Double Duty

Peel Lifeboat has congratulated Mike Taylor on qualifying as a Shannon-class Coxswain.

The station say this makes him the only volunteer in the Isle of Man qualified as both Coxswain and Mechanic on the Shannon lifeboat.

In command of the lifeboat when at sea, the Coxswain is responsible for the safety of casualties and the well-being of the crew.

The station said: “The encouragement of his fellow volunteers was a great support for Mike during this challenging process.

“He has been with Peel Lifeboat for nearly a decade, qualifying as a volunteer mechanic in 2018. Ashore, he engages with the public as a member of the station’s Visits Team.

“Mike was motivated to join the RNLI, in part, because he was rescued by the Peel Lifeboat, years earlier, when his motor cruiser encountered difficulties.

“Congratulations Mike! You worked hard to achieve your goal and everyone at Peel station is proud of you for your commitment to saving lives at sea.”
