The Chief and Deputy Chief Ministers are attending the Labour Party’s conference this week.
With a new party in power and many new MPs, the government wants to make friends with people in Whitehall.
Throughout the first day, Alf Cannan met with the EU’s Ambassador to the UK Pedro Serrano and the new MP for Whitehaven & Workington, Josh MacAllister.
Mr Cannan said: “Each year we attend the party conferences of the party in power, and the official opposition. This year, with a new government, the position is somewhat different. We will be working to build on existing relationships, and making new connections, to put across the Island’s message – that we are ready to work with the new government to deliver growth for the whole of the British family.”
“It is also an excellent opportunity to meet with members of the party more broadly and especially with our neighbours in the North West. With such a large intake of new MPs, and a new government, it will be especially interesting to form new relationships with our near neighbours.”
