The Steam Packet says a small number of minor injuries were sustained due to an aborted approach into Heysham.

This morning’s sailing aborted its initial approach to Heysham Port with passengers saying the sudden movement saw some people fall over and cups slide off tables.

However, commenters on social media praised the ship’s captain and crew for their handling of the situation.

A company spokesperson said: “The master ordered an aborted approach as the vessel was seen to be out of optimum approach position.”

They added: “This involved a sharp turn to starboard, resulting in the vessel heeling to port.

“As a result of the manoeuvre and the rolling of the vessel a small number of minor injuries have been sustained onboard. No emergency services response was required.”

The incident will be reported through the appropriate channels and the company said it will cooperate fully with any resulting investigation, should one be deemed necessary.
