Buildaskill Ltd has called on prospective MHKs and voters to prioritise apprenticeship funding amid concerns about a growing skills gap across key sectors.
In a statement addressed to election candidates, the island‑based vocational training provider said the Manx economy “thrives when we invest in our own people”, highlighting the importance of apprenticeships in construction, engineering and the Island’s expanding financial services industry.
Buildaskill warned that recent changes to apprenticeship funding, combined with increasing pressures on local businesses, have created “serious concerns” about future training opportunities.
It said the island “cannot afford a skills shortage” and that employers should not be left carrying the financial burden alone.
The company is urging candidates to commit to increasing apprenticeship funding and ensuring support is available for workers who want to progress to higher‑level qualifications.
Buildaskill said creating an environment where taking on an apprentice is “an undeniable win for the business, the worker, and the island” must be a priority for the next administration, and encouraged a wider public conversation on the issue.
