Murray Lambden Meeting records

With this year’s meeting a couple of days away I have updated the list of records in the history of the event.

The meeting was first held in 1980, and has taken place every year since with the exception of 2021.

It has had various guises over the years, perhaps being best known as the Manx Airlines Meeting as a result of the long-time sponsorship from the former local airline.

In recent years the meeting has been named in memory of one of its greatest supporters both as a competitor and as a reporter.

Meeting records

There has never been a fixed format of events, each year’s programme being designed to best suit the likely competitors.

In its heyday the meeting used to attract the cream of Irish and British race walking and running talent, and I have fond memories of seeing Olympic standards achieved on the NSC Roadway by Irish race walking greats Rob Heffernan, Gillian O’Sullivan and Olive Loughnane.

Some of the events recorded on the list below have only been held once, while others have been regular fixtures – especially the 10k and 20k walks.
