NCAS Committee to be Asked to Open Reuse Shed

Ramsey Commissioners have agreed to ask the Northern Civic Amenity Site Joint Committee to reopen the reuse site.

Over 1,000 people have signed a petition to get the area reopened – which was closed due to financial constraints.

Following an email to the local authority asking for recycling to be ‘tackled’ locally, Juan McGuinness said the services requested by the resident should be provided by the NCAS and not the commissioners.

Otherwise he said the local authority could end up carrying the burden of costs for a service all residents in the north needed:

It was also raised by Commissioner Lamara Craine that something needed to be done to stop ‘misinformation’ about the NCAS situation.

She said misinformation had caused ‘ill will’ against the committee, adding there was a lot of ‘vital’ information which Ramsey, Bride and the rest of the north need to know about.

Chair Rob Cowell said the board had its ‘hands tied’ with the situation and the NCAS committee were on the ‘back foot’:

Commissioner Adam Beighton agreed with him and said it would help combat some of the misinformation being spread:

Mr McGuinness’ proposal was approved by six votes to two, and a further debate was held in private.
