A new weather warning has been issued as Storm Buelo hits the island.
There are already warnings in place for heavy rain, strong gales and coastal overtopping.
Now the government has issued an amber alert for inner harbours.
A spokersperson said: “Inner harbour flooding expected around the time of the high tide tonight (11pm BST), with a storm surge in the Irish Sea.”
The main areas affected are likely to be:
Ramsey – West Quay, East Quay, Paliament Street, Dale Street, Shipyard Road and the banks of River Sulby to Gardener’s Lane.
Douglas – The Tongue area.
In addition, the government says flood defences should also be deployed for the lowest-lying parts of Castletown Harbour , on a yellow warning level.
There are three other warnings in place:
Amber warning for severe gales, 6pm Saturday to 3pm Sunday.
Yellow warning for rain, 10am-5pm:
Amber warning for coastal overtopping: 9pm tonight until 12.30pm Sunday.
Significant overtopping onto coastal roads and promenades for a couple of hours around the time of high tide on Saturday night (about 11pm) and Sunday morning (10.30am).
The areas most at risk are Fenella Beach in Peel, the Castletown end of Shore Road, Rushen, and Castletown promenade.
