Fell runner Nikki Arthur, was chosen to represent the UK team at the Skyrunning World Championships held in Spain.
Nikki finished in the top twenty of the 66km race which had 4100m of elevation.
Since choosing to concentrate exclusively on running (she was a very good boxer previously) Nikki has gone from strength to strength, not only in mountain ultra events and fell races but also on shorter events on the road.
Nikki said: “Coming top twenty at a world champs in an event I’ve never raced before and a distance I haven’t ever pushed over before – (not to mention the 4100m elevation) – is great. I am pleased but not content. I’m ready to try even harder.”
World Championships
“Getting selected for the team was daunting. I have never done a Sky race before and I’ve had a few wobbles out on some exposed technical trails this year so that was always playing on mind,” Nikki said.
She added: “I enjoyed so much of this race which was a nice feeling to have again after a lot of suffering in Laverado in June and UTS in Wales back in May. Even when it was hard I was so happy to have the opportunity to race and be there. Grins galore in all my pictures.
“The team did well, and I was very proud to have compete and raced alongside such a talented and motivated team. For me now I cant wait to get back to training and get my body strong, time to work on my weaknesses and improve on my strengths.”
