Nine Women Stand For Ramsey Commissioners

Ramsey Commissioners Town Hall

For the first time in history, nine women have put themselves forward to become a Ramsey Town Commissioner.

In the South Ward, which went uncontested, saw three women take seats on the local authority.

Whilst in the North Ward, which will go to an election, six of the eight who have been nominated are women.

If successful, this would mean a total of nine female commissioners out of a twelve seats.

Women in the Town

Current Ramsey Town Commissioner Lamara Craine said: “I’m absolutely delighted that so many women have stepped forward to volunteer as commissioners for our beautiful town of Ramsey.

“I really hope that my work to highlight the lack of women holding this kind of position has been the encouragement they needed to put their names in the hat.

“We need representation in politics and all areas of life.

“The majority of my followers are women which just shows women want women who represent them who they can relate to.

“Hopefully this paves the way for real change in local politics for our town and the island.”
