No Braddan Bridge closure this weekend

The Department of Infrastructure (DOI) have said that there will be no Braddan Bridge closure this weekend (January 20 & 21).

It had been planned to lay asphalt at Braddan Bridge today (January 19) as the weather forecast was significantly better than earlier this week.

The Departments paving engineer has inspected the site, and the ground temperature is still hovering at about zero, even though the ambient temperature is several degrees higher.

To lay asphalt in these circumstances would risk early failure of the new surface.

The weather forecast for Saturday and Sunday predicts heavy rain on both days, again not suitable for laying asphalt.

Works have had to be paused on site until the start of next week, week beginning January 22.

As this is the case, the one way system that is currently in place will continue over the weekend and there will not be a weekend closure of Braddan Bridge on the A1 Peel Road this weekend.

Closure

Work to resurface the road, from the junction with Braddan Road to the Church roundabout started on January 10.

The DOI said the work will include resurfacing the Jubilee Oak roundabout.

The Heritage Trail/TT Access Road between Quarterbridge and Braddan Bridge will remain open to walkers, equestrians and cyclists.

Arrangements have been made to allow access to emergency services (only) via this route. Other vehicular users will not be permitted access.
