The Education Minister says anyone applying for an apprenticeship place this year should be able to get one if they meet the criteria.
Daphne Caine told MHKs that University College Isle of Man has received 51 applications for September 2025, with 31 conditional offers already processed.
Responding to Jason Moorhouse, Mrs Caine said: “UCM currently has 51 applications from individuals who wish to commence a new apprenticeship programme in September 2025. Of these, 31 have been processed and have received conditional offers.”
She added that applicants typically secure employment before enrolment, ratified later by UCM.
Availability
Mr Moorhouse raised concerns over placement availability, asking how the number compares with previous years.
Mrs Caine said that it is still “early in the year for apprenticeship applications, which continue through the summer months”, so it is harder to make comparisons right now.
She also said she had no knowledge of any capacity issues saying applicants should be approved “should they have the employment and meet the criteria”.
