Family Court outcomes aren’t tracked for long‑term impact on children or families, the Department of Justice and Home Affairs has confirmed.
In a written Tynwald answer, Minister Jane Poole‑Wilson said there is no statutory basis for the Department to collect or analyse data once Family Court proceedings conclude, and no monitoring is carried out.
She said any such system would raise practical, methodological and information‑governance issues, and would not reliably show whether a specific court decision had improved or worsened a child’s circumstances given the many factors involved in complex or disputed cases.
The Minister said Family Court decisions are made according to each child’s individual welfare needs, meaning outcomes cannot be reduced to a single quantitative measure.
