The government has rubbished rumours on social media that a Douglas hotel is housing refugees at taxpayers’ expense.
Rumours have persisted that illegal migrants and/or refugees have been staying at the Palace Hotel and Casino.
One such post on Isle of Man News and Politics said: “There’s posts floating around on social media which the Government are allowing Manx hotels to house illegal immigrants and apparently they are being sent to the Island by ferry.
“This is not a rumour this has been confirmed by the Government.”
However, a government spokesperson said that it has seen the social media rumour about Palace Hotel rooms being used to house people at the taxpayers’ expense and “that there’s no truth to the claims”.
