The Home of Rest for Old Horses has issued an appeal for donations after facing a £10,000 bill to fertilise and lime its fields.
The charity said many of its “golden oldies” can no longer chew hay properly and rely heavily on fresh grass to maintain weight and stay healthy.
An unusually quiet season has left the organisation feeling the financial strain.
A spokesperson said the public’s support is vital: “Every donation, no matter how small, helps us care for the horses who depend on us.”
Donations can be made online, and the charity added that visits to its on‑site café also help fund the care of the horses.
The Home of Rest reminded visitors and supporters that all proceeds go directly toward feeding and caring for the animals.
