Purchasing new Christmas decorations was one of the key topics of conversations at last night’s meeting.
The clerk confirmed new street lights are due to be installed on Governors Road which will be able to support the improved decorative lighting.
He also said a budget of £10,000 has been allocated, but shipping would take between £300 to £500 of it.
Three lighting options were presented to the board; a pair of baubles, colour changing stars and yellow shooting stars.
The board agreed to buy the baubles and the yellow shooting stars because they are from the same company and believe they could save on some shipping costs.
It was also agreed to let the staff choose how many of each light to buy.
Another big topic the board discussed was a proposal by the Isle of Man Lawn Tennis Association to refurbish and install a canopy over the tennis courts in Onchan Park.
At meetings in November last year and March this year, the board requested answers to a number of questions including the cost, planning permission and how the courts would be administered.
The cost of the project would be in the region of £700,000 and the IOM LTA said this would be split in half, the local authority would pay £350,000 and the organisation would pay the other half.
Concerns were raised about how the courts would be run, currently, day passes can be purchased which includes the use of the tennis courts, but under the new proposals it would the IOMLTA which takes the bookings.
Some of the board members were worried that if the tennis courts are removed from the day pass then other amenities may ask to be removed.
A proposal was made to invite the organisation to a meeting, the vote was split and Chair Zara Lewin had the casting vote in favour of the meeting.
An email was sent to the commissioners asking for a photograph taken of Harvey Briggs and former MHK Anne Craine with a pig at Cregneash be framed and displayed in the library – at the cost of the resident.
The library is named after Mr Briggs who was a commissioner and former captain of the parish of Onchan.
This was unanimously agreed by the board.
Onchan Commissioners will next meet on Monday 1 July.
