The One World Centre (Isle of Man) has launched its Sustainable Fashion Competition; which is open to all Isle of Man students and young people up to the age of 25.
The competition challenges young people to design and create a wearable item that uses sustainable principles such as recycling, zero waste and natural materials.
There is a cash prize of £100 for the winner and runner up prizes will include a £50 voucher for OMA, the Ramsey store that showcases products in an ethical, sustainable and environmentally conscious way.

Launching the competition, One World Centre Coordinator Wendy Shimmin said: “We all know fast fashion is not the future. We need to look after the earth’s resources and find better ways of producing clothes and accessories that don’t harm the environment or the people who make them.
“Our competition prompts people to consider the materials used and the processes these go though, as well as how they can adopt zero-waste principles. We want people to think about how fashion can fit into a circular economy where we don’t use items one or two times and then throw them away.

The closing date for the competition is July 19 and the One World Centre is offering optional supporting short talks or lessons on sustainable fashion to schools and other groups who are interested in taking part.
An exhibition of entries is planned for later in the year after which all items will be returned to their creators.
