Over 17,500 People on Wait Lists

Health Minister Claire Christian MHK has confirmed that 17,541 people were waiting for a first consultant‑led outpatient appointment at the end of March 2026.

The Minister said Manx Care cannot yet predict how many patients will be on waiting lists next year, nor how many procedures will be delivered in 2026/27.

The figures were released in response to a written Tynwald question from Arbory, Castletown and Malew MHK Jason Moorhouse.

Wait Lists

Manx Care recorded the following activity during the 2025/26 financial year:

  • 49,820 outpatient referrals
  • 124,567 attended outpatient appointments
  • 7,759 elective admitted patient stays

The totals cover both Noble’s Hospital and Ramsey Cottage Hospital.

The Minister said a single referral can lead to several appointments. Outpatient and admitted‑patient activity is logged separately because Manx Care does not yet have referral‑to‑treatment reporting.

Elective figures only reflect planned procedures and do not include emergency work. Some procedures take place in outpatient clinics and cannot yet be reported separately.

Monthly waiting‑list data for consultant‑led services continues to be published online.

Manx Care is not able to say how many people will be on waiting lists at the end of March 2027, or how many consultations and procedures will be carried out in 2026/27. That information will not be available before April 2027.
