PAC Suspends Health Review

The Public Accounts Committee has chosen to suspend its review into health governance in light of two other reviews being ongoing.

Chair Juan Watterson SHK addressed the decision in Tynwald this week.

He told members that since both Manx Care’s chair and the Chief Minister have both announced a review of governance, the committee “feels that having up to three concurrent reviews into the same thing are unlikely to add value”.

Mr Watterson added: “We are glad to have drawn attention to several issues, such as the misalignment of the mandate, operating plan and budget, the lack of activity based costing, which would allow an informed decision on whether man’s care is overspending or underfunded, and the teething issues around the health and social care ombudsman body.”

He said that the evidence taken will be available both publicly and to the other reviews.

As a result of the standing orders, Tynwald President Laurence Skelly said Mr Watterson was not allowed to answer any questions other than when the committee will report, which it won’t be doing as there is no finalised report.
