Manx Care are encouraging parents to look out for Scarlet Fever symptoms following a confirmed case that has been found at a primary school on the Island.
The health care provider have shared a video of Dr Helen Greig speaking about the signs and symptoms:
Manx Care says it will be working with Public Health to monitor any further cases and respond as required.
Symptoms and treatment
Symptoms include:
- A high temperature;
- A sore throat;
- Swollen neck glands (a large lump on the side of your neck);
- A rash appears 12 to 48 hours later. The rash makes your skin feel rough, like sandpaper.
Treatment:
A GP may prescribe antibiotics which will:
- Help you get better quicker;
- Reduce the chance of a serious illnesses, such as pneumonia;
- Make it less likely that you’ll pass the infection on to someone else.
