Public Health Isle of Man is asking people to be aware of the symptoms of an infection circulating on the island.
Hand, foot and mouth disease is a common infection that causes mouth ulcers and spots on the hands and feet, most common in children under 10 years of age.
It is not the same as foot and mouth disease that affects farm animals.
It usually gets better on its own in seven to 10 days, you cannot take antibiotics or other medicines to cure it.
NHS England says those with thee infection should “drink cool fluids to soothe the mouth and prevent dehydration (but avoid acidic drinks, such as fruit juice)”, people are also advised to eat soft foods like yoghurt and avoid hot, salty and spicy foods.
You can also take take paracetamol or ibuprofen to help ease a sore mouth or throat.
