Former Garff MHK Martyn Perkins has announced he will stand for the House of Keys in this year’s general election.
Mr Perkins, who represented the constituency from 2016 to 2021, said he was motivated by concerns over the current administration.
“Having been a member of the Keys in the previous administration I am dismayed just how disconnected and authoritarian the present administration has become,” he said.
He pledged to challenge government structure and function, adding: “Government must listen and take on board the mounting pressures that people are incurring.”
Mr Perkins said Garff needs “strong, focussed representation, scrutinising and holding government to account” and highlighted the need to limit public spending and rebuild reserves.
He also stressed the importance of protecting independence, democracy and free speech “at all costs”.
“It is vitally important that our independence, democracy, and above all free speech is protected at all costs,” he said.
The election takes place on Thursday September 24.
Anthony Allen, Aishlinn Creer, Sean Bostrom, Daphne Caine and Peter Kermeen have previously declared their intention to seek election this summer.
