A Douglas resident has launched a petition to urge the Isle of Man Government to implement Sarah’s Law.
Sarah’s Law, formally known as the Child Sex Offender Disclosure Scheme in England and Wales, allows parents, carers or guardians to formally ask the police to tell them if someone has a record for child sexual offences.
This law was introduced after eight-year-old Sarah Payne was murdered by a convicted paedophile.

The petition claims that the Isle of Man Government do not have such provisions in place here, ‘which leaves our children potentially vulnerable’.
They say that the absence of such an important safeguarding measure puts us behind other jurisdictions where it has been successfully implemented and proven effective.
The implementation of Sarah’s Law would provide an additional layer of security for children by allowing parents or guardians access to vital information about individuals who may pose a risk.
The petition currently has over 200 signatures, with over 140 signing today (April 25).
