A passenger who was due to sail on Manxman from Heysham last night has sent us a picture of the damage they saw of the stern of the flagship.
When boarding the Ben-my-Chree, a passenger said they were able to see the damage, which is shown below.
They said: “Arrived as planned for check in, but the Manxman was facing the wrong way. Thought it was odd so asked harbour crew and they didn’t have information.
“We had to wait until approx 3.30am for confirmation the Ben would be operating the sailing.
“Boarded close to 5am and set off shortly after 5am. As we boarded, we could see the damage to the back of the Manxman.
“There weren’t enough cabins to honor the bookings from the Manxman (including ours) so families with children, elderly and disabled persons (were very loosely) prioritised. Steam packet crew offered complimentary hot beverages for the crossing.”
A passenger who was on Manxman when it crashed, told us “they didn’t make any announcements until we docked, then they said we had to wait till a boat was moved out the way so the Manxmann could turn around in the dock as it had gone in the wrong way”.
“We got a free hot drink and a hour after we got a free bacon and sausage bun ,but no explanation why we had been damaged, I feel they should of told us what the problem was, I didn’t get home till 5am.”
There is also a grainy photo of the supposed damage to the bow of the ship which has been widely shared across social media.
Ben-my-Chree is due to operate the Heysham sailings today, with Manxman still in the Lancashire port.
