DEFA has announced the reopening of Archallagan Forest following extensive storm damage earlier this year.
Approximately 10% of the plantation’s total area, equating to about 10,000 tonnes of timber, was felled due to storm damage clearance and associated tree harvesting work.
The department added: “The timber extracted has more than satisfied local sawmill requirements, with surplus logs exported to the UK at a profit to the island.”
However, visitors are advised that some areas remain restricted.
“A large amount of brash remains on site which means parts of the plantation are inaccessible, including some of the mountain bike trails,” the department confirmed.

Popular amenities such as the Zurich End to End Junior MTB trail and Spider Play Park are accessible, though the northern path to the central pond remains closed.
Car Parks 1 and 2 are open, but Car Park 3 will stay shut. Forestry staff will be available in Car Park 1 this Saturday for public inquiries, with Deja Brew catering on site.
The department concluded, “We look forward to welcoming visitors back to Archallagan where we hope to expand the recreational offer in the coming months and years ahead.”
