Timber harvesting operations to remove storm-damaged trees in Archallagan Plantation are “progressing well,” with works expected to continue for approximately three more months.
DEFA has confirmed the plantation remains closed to the public for safety reasons while heavy machinery and timber haulage operations are underway.
“The Department would like to extend its sincere thanks to the public for their continued patience and understanding, and we apologise for any inconvenience this may cause,” a Facebook post said.
DEFA strongly urges the public not to enter the site during operations, stressing that cooperation is “vital to ensure the safety of both the public and site personnel.”
Plans are underway to replant Archallagan with a “diverse mix of native broadleaf and conifer species” to enhance ecological resilience. Recreational improvements, including restored trails and new walking, cycling, and horse-riding routes, are also being considered.
Ground preparation and replanting are scheduled to begin in 2026.
