Year Six pupils at Henry Bloom Noble Primary School in Douglas revealed a “treasure trove” of ideas in response to a request for their thoughts about today’s general election.
Manx.News journalists Charlie Morrey and Paul Speller took a break from their using political reporting duties and went back to school to gain a younger perspective.
Year Six teacher Lee Brooks said of the students: “Their eyes are wide open. There is a treasure trove of wisdom and insight and suggestions from this age group.”
So what did these 10 and 11-year-olds bring up when given the chance to have their say?
Issues included everything from the need to support traders, transport connectivity and the health risks of smoking, to the state of the NSC pool and the need for better school dinners, especially more angel cake!
Fair to say the spread of concerns more than matched that from adults during the election campaign.

Make Sure You Vote!
Head teacher Rachel Ashley said that the school had been raising awareness of the election during the term. These days, of course, the September election arrives much sooner in the winter term than the previous November dates.
And the pupils themselves were united in one very important message for those who are old enough to participate in the election process: “Make sure you vote!”
