Public Rallies to Support Family of TT Rider Daniel

Helayna, Daniel and their children Joey and Phoebe

The wife of former TT rider Daniel Ingham has given her heartfelt thanks after an outpouring of generosity from the public following news of the financial difficulties her family was facing.

Helayna Ingham had revealed she feared her family may lose their home after Daniel died at the TT. He had life insurance but she had been informed it would not “provide the financial support we had expected”.

After revealing their plight on social media, well-wishers have rallied to help via her GoFundMe page.

More than £24,000 has now been raised.

Helayna posted a message to say: “Things are starting to look a little more positive, and I honestly cannot put into words how much that means to me.

“In an ideal world, Dan’s life insurance should have meant that our mortgage was paid off and that I could keep our home without having to worry about the financial side of things. Sadly, due to the circumstances surrounding his death and the technicalities of the policy, that hasn’t happened.

“But thanks to the incredible support, donations and advice I have received, it is now looking possible for me to secure a mortgage myself and keep the home Dan and I built for our children.”

She added: “I will need to be very careful with our finances and make sure every penny is managed sensibly, but this is something I honestly didn’t know would be possible a short time ago.”

Overwhelmed

Earlier fundraising had given the family immediate security, she said, and the latest response had left her “overwhelmed”.

“I never imagined I would have to ask for help like this,” she said.

“I have always been a strong, independent and very proud person, and asking for financial help has been incredibly difficult. At times, it has honestly felt like I was becoming a beggar or a charity case.

“But everyone has completely changed the way I feel about that. You haven’t made me feel like a charity case — you have made me feel supported, loved and surrounded by people who genuinely want to help me and my children.”

Daniel Ingham died at this year’s TT, following a crash at Doran’s Bend.
