The number of people employed by the government rose again across the last financial year.
According to the Public Services Commission’s (PSC) annual report for 2024/25, the workforce increased by 136 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees, bringing the total to 4,276.61.
The report highlighted that Manx Care remained the largest employer, with 1,104 FTE staff.
Voluntary resignations were the most common reason for departures, accounting for 196.6 FTE leavers, while retirements followed at 104.5 FTE.
Transparency
Chair of the PSC, Rob Callister MHK, said: “Our commitment to excellence, transparency, and innovation in Public Service delivery remains unwavering.
“The PSC continues to evolve to meet public expectations by fostering new skills and attracting fresh talent, while also enhancing the capabilities of our existing workforce.”
Sickness absence decreased slightly, with 5.3% of worktime lost compared to 5.62% the previous year. Stress, anxiety, and depression were the leading causes, accounting for 14,857 lost days.
The report also detailed 27 complaints received via the Integrity Line, a drop from 41 the year before, and 13 whistleblowing cases, mostly involving health and safety concerns.
