With yet another superb performance yesterday (February 5), Regan Corrin achieved his first two metres high jump clearance.
Regan was competing in the Loughborough Open Meeting (he is currently based in Loughborough), and achieved first-time clearances at 1.82 metres, 1.87m and 1.92m.
He then failed with his first two attempts at 1.97 metres before clearing it with his third and final attempt.
Two metre jump
The bar then went up to 2.02 metres – and Regan cleared it first time! I understand he then had three good attempts at 2.07 metres.
Added to his recent 6.94-metres long jump, which is an outright IOM record and places him joint top of the UK U20 rankings, Regan is having a wonderful indoor season.
His performance will place him third in the UK U20 rankings for the high jump – and all this in his first year in the age group.
Record books
Last month, Corrin created a piece of Isle of Man athletics history when he achieved the best-ever long jump distance by a Manx athlete.
Competing in the Northern Athletics U17/U20/Senior Indoor Championships in Sheffield, Regan won the gold medal in the U20 Men’s long jump with a distance of 6.94 metres.
This exceeds by two centimetres the outdoor record set by Phil Riley at the 2007 Island Games in Rhodes.
