Mathew Rennie dominated his Friday night bout in Liverpool as he continued his path back to title matches.
Magic won 59-55 on points as he controlled his fight against Harley Hodggets.
Rennie, who knocked his opponent down with a gorgeous right hand in the fifth, was unable to claim a KO win, but did more than enough to secure the fight on points.
Speaking after the fight, Rennie said: “He was a tricky opponent, he came with a winning record, he’s nowhere near like a journeyman or anything.”
He added: “I’m not going to lie, I didn’t think ti was the best performance, maybe I was looking for the big punches too much instead of thinking about setting it up, but you know what?
“A win is a win and a good six rounds under my belt.”
In a warning to future rivals, Rennie told Box Nation: “I know I can do a lot better.”
