Rent Arrears Top £875,000

Housing authority tenants across the island have chalked up rent arrears of almost £880,000, according to the latest figures.

The figures were released by the DoI Minister Dr Michelle Haywood after a question from Rob Callister (Onchan).

Dr Haywood said her department collects performance data from all public sector housing providers on a quarterly basis, with Q2 2024/25 being the most up to date figures available.

Between all the housing authorities, the anticipated annual income for the financial year is £34,163,501, of which, as of quarter two, £878,491.19 was in arrears.

Comparatively, at the end of 2023/24, from an anticipated income of £31,728,267, there were arrears of £758,912.54, which made up 2.4% of that income.

Over a quarter of the arrears for the current year sit with Douglas Council (£266,234.05), though this is unsurprising as it is by far the largest housing authority and is anticipating an income of £12,735,807, which is over a third of the annual projected total income for public housing.
