Works to upgrade Kionslieu Reservoir near Foxdale are set to cost £2.6m.
List in the 2026-27 Pink Book, the funding will allow DEFA to upgrade it to modern standards and “ensure the health and safety of local residents”.
The condition of the reservoir is such that it “cannot continue to function without significant risk of flood and contamination spread”, with properties in Foxdale village considered most at risk.
The proposed works include reshaping the banks, installing new pipes and an overflow system, and restoring the public footpath.
The project may be complicated by the potential presence of unexploded devices from the Second World War, as the site was used for live-fire training.
The £2.6 million allocation forms part of the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture’s capital programme, with £780,000 budgeted for 2026-27 and the remainder in 2027-28.
The Sawmill also receives £400,000 for a “replacement of timber treatment plant to enhance production capability, meet environmental requirements and deliver substantial efficiency savings”.
