Rise in Inflation Rate

The annual rate of inflation for August 2026 rose by 0.2% compared with the previous month.

Inflation, as measured by the Consumer Price Index, stands at 4.1% for August 2026.

The category “housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels” saw the largest increase, rising by 10.3% over the past year. The monthly government report said the increase continued to be driven by “oil and other fuels”, which has increased by 57% compared with August 2025.

The second largest contributor was “miscellaneous goods and services”, rising by 9.3% compared with 12 months ago. Within this category, “insurance premiums” saw the biggest increase.

The third largest contributor was “alcoholic beverages and tobacco”, which increased by 4.4% over the past 12 months. Within this category, “tobacco” recorded the largest increase, rising by 6%.
