Rushen Silver Band to Release CD

Rushen Silver Band will release a CD recording of Celtic Connections this weekend at a concert with Alan Fernie.

The concert at Rushen Primary School this Saturday (October 18) will feature the band, along with its development group Ballafesson Brass, and will be conducted by guest conductor Alan Fernie, a well-known figure in the brass band world.

Admission to the concert is free, although there will be a retiring collection for band funds.

Guest Conductor

Alan has visited the island numerous times before and has an excellent relationship with Rushen Silver Band.

He will spend time over the previous three days rehearsing both bands and continue the excellent development of the players in the band, building on that carried out by the band’s own tutor team.

The concert will also mark the release of the bands 4th CD recording.

CD Release

Celtic Connection features a number of well-known Manx melodies, and those from other Celtic nations, showing the strong musical connections in the Celtic world.

The CD, priced £12.50, will be on sale at the concert, and then online through the band’s Facebook page, where it will also be available as a digital download.

Musical Director, John Kinley said: “The recording of the band’s 4th CD is a milestone of the band’s continued progress.

“The quality of the music is excellent, and it shows what a local community band can do.

“It is particularly pleasing that this recording, with its Celtic Connection, features a number of local works, including some of those of our principal cornet Ashley Cole and my own pieces.”
