Sam Jones took the victory in this opening round of the new Fell League season on New Year’s Day in St Johns.
However, Mark Burman pushed him very hard and finished only six seconds behind.
There was also a close race for third, with Harry Kneen taking it by five seconds from Joey Bond.
Harry Weatherill was fifth and Dan Richmond sixth, followed by Nick Colburn, Phil Knox, Lloyd Taggart, Daniel Minay, Tom Cringle and Liam Parker.
New Years Day Fell Race
Nikki Arthur was the women’s winner in 18th place overall. Second was Kirsty Barber, third Elena Caley, fourth Katherine Cubbon, fifth Faith Teare and sixth Jackie Lee.
They were followed by Holly Sumner, Bella Quaye, Emily Bridson, Florence Griffin, Caroline Caren and Poppy Clayton.
There was an amazing turnout of 268 runners for this traditional New Year’s Day race, which is also the first round of the new fell running league.
