Corbyn Schade claimed the Hospice Half Marathon title in Ramsey with a superb, personal‑best performance.
Schade and Mark Burman set the early pace at the front, running stride‑for‑stride for the first eight miles before the younger athlete began to edge clear between miles eight and nine.
From there he pressed home his advantage, crossing the line in Market Square in 1:12:46, 41 seconds ahead of Burman and continuing an excellent winter of form.
Hospice Half Marathon
Burman was rewarded with an impressive 1:13:27, pushing Schade hard throughout.
Behind them, the ever‑consistent Lewis Crowe secured third in 1:14:24, further underlining his strong progression over the past year. Eamon Farrell followed in fourth with 1:15:41.
The women’s race was won in style by Christa Cain, who finished fifth overall in 1:16:35 despite not running at full pace.
Kirsty Barber claimed second place with a personal best of 1:25:06, while Joanne Schade delivered arguably the most remarkable performance of the day to take third in 1:27:23.
Isle of Man Record
Joanne’s run not only beat her own Isle of Man women’s 55 record but would have met the Island Games A standard for last year’s Games in Orkney.
Approaching her 58th birthday, she last competed at the Island Games in 1987 as a thrower, making her transformation into one of the island’s leading veteran distance runners all the more extraordinary.
Her time on Sunday (March 22) was more than four minutes faster than her run in the same event last year.
Among the 9am starters mixing in with the faster 9.15am wave was Elena Caley, the first woman to physically cross the line and an impressive performer in the U20 category. She placed sixth in the women’s standings behind Katherine Cubbon (fourth) and Clara Isaac (fifth).
The top ten was rounded out by Emily Mylchreest, Elissa Wood, Gemma Cringle and Tiffany Faragher, signalling a promising crop of emerging female talent.
Another standout veteran display came from Gail Sheeley, whose 1:40:35 in her first half marathon for more than six years comfortably broke the Isle of Man women’s 60 record previously held by Marie Morgan.
This year’s event saw 423 finishers, a significant rise from last year’s 310, and ran smoothly throughout under clear skies.
