A Douglas primary school has been chosen for a pilot project that could shape the future of how educators create environments for children.
The ‘Adaptive Classroom’ project will see pupils, parents and staff at Scoill Yn Jubilee Juniors working together with consultants to enhance the learning environment provided to pupils.
The outcome will be to create a space within the school where every child feels safe, supported, and able to thrive.
Ground Breaking Project
The Adaptive Classroom moves away from the traditional school concept, which tends to focus on behaviour management, and moves towards an environment that encourages connection, compassion, and belonging.
The pilot project will utilise the latest thinking about interior design, psychology, and community wellbeing to create a better learning experience for children.
The idea for the project began with Werk Solutions (an independent interior design dealer based in the UK) entering this year’s Isle of Man Innovation Challenge.
With support from Ellanstone Ltd, Werk Solutions’ Adaptive Classroom idea was chosen as a finalist.
To deliver the pilot project, both of those businesses have teamed up with two consultancies based in the north west of England (Metamorphia and Barber-Brown Strategic Consulting).
Isle of Man Steam Packet Company also supported the project by assisting with the shipment of equipment that will be used to create the Adaptive Classroom.
