On Sunday (July 21), over 300 dancers from seven Manx dance schools battled it out at the Isle of Man’s first Cheer and Hip Hop competition.
There were 300 dancers competing, 250 hip hop entries and 260 cheer-dance entries, with the youngest competitor being three-years-old.
Seven on island dance schools take part; CNDC, Dynamic Dance Centre, Fusion, Gena’s Dance Academy, Just Dance North, Just Dance South, Move It Studios.
Isle Dance
Charlotte Scarffe of Isle Dance said: “Planning to host Isle Dance started in January, with the idea that this would give the islands dance community the opportunity to showcase their talent close to home with little cost.
“The majority of dancers competing on Sunday have never had the opportunity to compete before or in these styles of dance before”.
The competition was held at the Roundhouse in Braddan and saw over 700 attendees throughout the day between 8:30am to 6pm.
Charlotte says that for ‘each style of dance we had solo events, duo events, teams events and fun duos’.
Charlotte thanks The Roundhouse, Leandra and Platform, the adjudicator, all of the volunteers involved, the dance schools and dancers who took part, Gear Industries for lighting, Steve Nash for the sound system, and St Ninians High School for lending chairs.
