A programme of accessibility improvements is under way at bus stops across Douglas, Braddan and Peel.
The Department of Infrastructure appointing JCK Ltd to carry out the works.
Each stop will receive a Kassel kerb and associated resurfacing as part of the Department’s ongoing investment in making the island’s bus network easier and safer to use.
Kassel Kerbs
Kassel kerbs are specially shaped stones that guide a bus’s wheels into the correct position at a stop, reducing the gap between the vehicle and the pavement.
The design improves boarding for wheelchair users, people with limited mobility and passengers with pushchairs, while also helping reduce wear on buses.
Work begins immediately and is scheduled to be completed by the end of May.
Upgrades will take place at 17 locations, including Lord Street, Groves Road, Pulrose Road, Stevenson Way and multiple stops in Anagh Coar.
Braddan’s Strang Crossroads and three sites in Peel, including Peel Town Hall and Albany Road, are also included.
Minor kerb works will be carried out at Stand C at Lord Street Bus Station.
The Department said the programme reflects its commitment to creating a more accessible and user‑friendly public transport network for all passengers.
