Sewage Works Remain on Track

Peel Sewage treatment plans

Peel’s new sewage treatment works remain on schedule to be fully operational by the end of 2027.

John Wannenburg, chair of Manx Utilities, told Keys that the system will be brought online in stages.

Screening equipment is due to become operational this September, meaning no more large items such as wet wipes will be discharged into Peel Bay.

“The treatment works will be fully operational by the end of 2027 with final landscaping and site demobilisation due to be undertaken in early 2028,” Mr Wannenburg said.

He added: “The first four IRBC units are due to be commissioned in April next year, ahead of the 2027 bathing season. This will bring about huge improvements to bathing water quality.”
