Peter Shimmin topped the poll in Douglas Central in Thursday’s election, to follow in the footsteps of his father John, who was also an MHK.
But the constituency waved goodbye to Ann Corlett, who was defeated after 10 years serving the area. Treasury Minister Chris Thomas was second.
Shimmin topped the poll with 1,382 votes, Thomas not far behind on 1,143. Corlett received 683 votes, Devon Watson (Manx Labour Party), 651; Andrea Kruger, 357; Sharon Bridges (Change), 181; George Hargreaves (Transform Isle of Man), 120; Creena Mason (Transform Isle of Man), 57.
A delighted Shimmin said he was “completely overhwelmed” and didn’t expect to top the poll.
He added: “To the people of Douglas Central, they put their trust in me for the next five years. I hope to do them proud as well.”
His father John Shimmin served as an MHK for the same area (previously called Douglas West) from 1996 to 2016, and held a number of ministerial positions.
Thomas also thanked the voters for their support and was soon called on to answer questions about whether he would put his name forward for the Chief Minister position.

Corlett (pictured above) was philosophical over her defeat.
“It has been an absolute honour to represent the people of the Isle of Man and of Douglas Central,” she said.
“I have got a sense of disappointment but actually i have got a strange sense of relief that I can go back to my life and enjoy some of the things I want to do.”
