Shorter Hours, But Not Closures

The Isle of Man Post Office has firmly denied any plans for widespread closures.

This follows significant social media gossip that several sub-post offices are to soon close.

The organisation acknowledged, however, that significant commercial pressures are impacting its retail partners.

A spokesperson said: “Changing customer behaviour, the continued shift toward digital services, and the withdrawal of several Government services traditionally delivered through sub post offices, are affecting the commercial viability for some retail partners.”

They added: “It remains each retailer’s choice, based on their own business circumstance, whether they wish to continue providing the required services.”

Challenges

In response to these challenges, IOMPO however has confirmed that there will be “adjusted” opening hours and service provisions, which it said will be done “in a sustainable way”.

Updated opening hours across the network will be announced early next week, with further changes to be introduced in phases.

Statement in Full

“Isle of Man Post Office (IOMPO) is aware of recent speculation regarding the future of the Island’s retail network. For clarity, IOMPO is not closing post offices. However, changing customer behaviour, the continued shift toward digital services, and the withdrawal of several Government services traditionally delivered through sub post offices, are affecting the commercial viability for some retail partners. It remains each retailer’s choice, based on their own business circumstance, whether they wish to continue providing the required services.

In response to reduced demand and footfall, IOMPO is working closely with all retail partners to adjust opening hours and service provision in a sustainable way. Updated opening hours across the network will be announced early next week, with further changes introduced in a phased and carefully managed manner.

The IOMPO Board remains committed to maintaining convenient, accessible postal only services in communities, and to supporting agency partners and customers as the market continues to evolve. We will continue to manage this transition responsibly and transparently, working with retailers and Government to minimise disruption. Customers and stakeholders will be kept informed, and any changes will be communicated clearly and in a timely way.”
