A poll taken by one of the island’s football reporters has shown clear support for Manx football to move to an earlier kickoff time.
Currently most men’s senior games kick off at 2:30pm or 2pm during the winter, with exceptions made for St Mary’s home matches and cup ties.
Dean Turton from Upfront Footy has conducted a poll of what would be the ideal kickoff time for people today, with over half of the 565 respondents saying they would favour a 1pm start.
He said: “The data is crystal clear: players and officials overwhelmingly support earlier start times.
“This feedback, coming directly from those who play and officiate the game, clearly requires some attention. But the decision lies in the hands of the clubs. If players and committee members want change, they must start the conversation and take action.
“So, could this small change be key to reversing the rapid decline of the men’s game? In my opinion, absolutely.”
Dean added that the earlier kickoff times could be a boost to clubs who could benefit from additional revenue after games and would also allow players and officials more of a weekend with their families.
He said: “This potential change is not governed by English FA laws. It’s actually a very simple process to drive, a club just needs to bring it to the table and then a vote by the member clubs who sit on the FA council takes place.”
