A Ramsey resident is calling for girls’ skirts to be removed as an option from school uniform policy, arguing the current style is “simply not appropriate for a school setting”.
The proposal, shared on the Ramsey Community Pinboard page, suggests skirts should be replaced with smart black trousers in various cuts, such as bootcut or wide leg.
The post, sent to Manx.News by a reader, states that leggings and skinny styles would not be acceptable.
“As parents, grandparents and Guardians we all want our daughters to feel comfortable, confident and appropriately dressed at school,” the post reads.
“Many of us have growing concerns about the current school uniform skirts.
“They are often worn far too short, exposing far too much leg, and the overall look is simply not appropriate for a school setting. It’s also not a flattering or practical option for many girls.”
The parent stressed the aim was to implement a more suitable standard, rather than criticise the pupils.
“This is not about criticising the girls,” the post states. “It’s about creating a standard that feels more suitable, practical and respectful for a learning environment.”
The post attracted a wide range of comments, some in support of the idea and others rejecting it outright.
