Slight Rise in Inflation

Inflation as measured by Consumer Price Index stands at 2.5% for January, up 0.1% from the previous month.

The category ‘Restaurants and hotels’ exhibits the biggest increase having risen 5.9% compared with 12 months ago.

Wines and spirits ‘on’ sales (wine and spirit sold on licensed premises) has seen the biggest increase within this category, rising by 7.3%.

The second biggest contributor to the rate of inflation was ‘Alcoholic beverages and tobacco’, which shows a rise of 4.8%. ‘Tobacco’ saw the largest rise (10.3%) in this category.

The third biggest increase was ‘Recreation and culture’ which shows a rise of 4.4%. Within this category ‘Kennel fees’ saw the largest rise (9.4%).
