Garff MHK Andrew Smith says he will not seek re‑election, confirming he is stepping back from politics after a voluntary health review raised concerns about his ability to continue serving at the level required.
Smith, 72, said it had been “an honour and privilege” to represent Garff for the past five years.
He explained that although he had not planned to retire six months ago, the results of an extensive health screening, which identified no serious conditions, prompted him to reconsider the “dedication, commitment and loyalty” expected of an MHK.
He thanked constituents for their support and said further details about his work as a Treasury Board member will be released shortly.
