This weekend will bring suspicious looking skies; making us ponder over whether the clouds are bringing rain or snow.
I need to start this by apologising for last weeks less than average weather forecast; I have now recovered from my hangover, so normality resumes.
I’d love to welcome you all to a New Year, new weather for the Isle of Man, but sadly it’s New Year, same sh**.
Although, the weekend forecast has been jazzed up slightly by rain warnings being replaced by snow warnings.
Lets be real, for most of us it’ll rain, and the only living beings affected by the ‘snow warning’ are the sheep on the Mountain and the poor farmers trying to check on them.
Snow Talk
Today is the best of the weekend, it will lull us into a false sense of security than January won’t be too savage and maybe we are on our way to Spring.
There will be icy patches to start, then ice and snow is forecast for later on, but before we get into the snow talk, most of today will be sunny with a few isolated showers and light winds.
Those light winds will soon disappear as we will be greeted by 40mph winds later in the night.
The Ronaldsway Met Office is warning of ‘significant accumulations’ of snow beginning on high ground later, with ‘severe drifting’.
However it has given a disclaimer that the snow level still a little uncertain, but rain and sleet is most probable on low ground.
Wind and Sleet
Going into Sunday (January 7), spells of rain, sleet and snow will be heavy at times then dying out late in the day.
The strong winds will give blizzards (!!!!) and severe drifting on the hills, deep drifts forming in places.
However, most of the towns and populated areas will escape, with the snow level likely to be a few hundred feet – what did I say?
The wind will be coming from the East or NE backing North or NW 20-25, 25-30 gusts 40 in places.
Before I delve into what next week has in store (hopefully less rain/sleet whatever you want to call it), we shall take a little step into my runaway land of cosmos.

She’s back. Mercury has finished retrograding, the full moon is taking a break, and hopefully everyone is feeling as ok as can be expected.
Enjoy it whilst you can, as we will have a full moon again on January 13 – this first full moon of the year is called a Wolf Moon.
This full moon radiates a reflective energy and a new passion, serving a perfect combination of elements to kick off the new year and life chapter.
It is also a time for introspection and letting go of the past.
Whilst we are letting go of the past, it doesn’t mean we can simply forget it, so a pre-warning that the next Mercury Retrograde starts on March 14 (you’ve been warned).
See Ya Snow
Back to the weather and what we can actually see in front of us, not the universe messing with our feng shui.
Next week looks remarkably ‘okay’, I say that tentatively as it changes as quick as my moods – if you haven’t had the pleasure of a Charlie mood swing, good for you. If you have, you’ll know it can change in a split second.
Monday is forecast to be sunny with clear spells and scattered showers, wintry on hills.
It will be windy enough (what do you expect, you live on the Isle of Man in winter, get over it) with NW 20-25, 25-30 gusts 40 in places, decreasing 15-20, 20-25 in places.
There is a warning of frost and ice as temperatures are expected to drop to -1C.
Tuesday is looking fairly similar but with a little less wind.
There will be sunny and clear spells with occasional showers that will be wintry on hills. The wind will have dropped down to a NW 15-20, 20-25 in places, decreasing 10-15 later, 15-20 in places.
Again warning of ice and frost, if you haven’t twigged the outlook for the next few days is: Cold, windy and wet.
